Practices of Amazement

Synopsis

Synopsis

The starting point of “Hospital de campo” stems from a shared yet deeply personal feeling: that we are all unwell.

When we ask ourselves about the nature of the ailments we carry, those that manifest in our bodies as well as our minds, a common ground begins to take shape. We might define it as the trace left by the abandonment of the subjective dimension of our bodily existence. This work explores the idea of suffering, of doubling and the relationship between the patient and the one who heals.

We begin with the recognition that the healthcare system constantly reproduces a series of separations between body and mind, individual and collective, self and environment, visible and invisible. These divisions have created a strange, estranged relationship with our own bodies.

In Practices of Amazement, we explore this rupture in a formal way, using puppets, objects and other elements as mediators in the dialogue between the patient and the active principle that heals them. These become tools for creating performances that aim to treat our collective ailments.
