Caunterweighting

An ongoing physical and conceptual investigation.

Synopsis

Synopsis

There are two concepts – weakness and vulnerability. There are two contrary forces – gravity and counterweight, two dimensions – ground and air, two states of body – uneasiness y release. This is my dance with the social perception and the way I feel. This is the research of myself, of my body, of the forces that move me in my everyday life, in my arts. It’s my way to plant the questions and get the answers.

I am exploring the breadth and diversity of movement using a system of pulleys and counterweight, I learn to collaborate with it, to take advantage of this partnership, to move with and against it. This device propels me upwards and towards the centre, limiting my freedom of movement on the ground, but in return, it offers me a superpower, an effortless flight. Thus, space and creation are fragmented into two dimensions, two parts, two different bodily states: weighted and unleashed. This allows create and maintain a state of discomfort, a tension in the postures, movements and gestures at first, followed by freedom, rest and wildness in the air.

It is a physical and emotional journey, from the weight of doubt and fear to the impulse to launch oneself and transform those forces into flight.
